Mount Rinjani National Park - Sembalun Gate

Sembalun District, East Lombok Regency

Rinjani area has a complete set of forest types such as savannah, semi dediduous forest, lower mountane evergreen forest and tropocal montane evergreen forest, making it very rich and diserverd zone. About 50% of forest of Mount Rinjani National Park are primary forest, while the rest of it consists savannah (40%) and plantation (10%) (FAO 1981 in BPK Kupang 1997). Within TNGR area lays Segara Anak lake. There are two official routes-Senaru and Sembalun. Flora and Fauna that can be found along the way are:

Flora : Are (Ficus racemosa), pakis pohon (Cathea contaminans), mangga gunung/mountain manggo (Daphniphyllum glaucescens BI), slopan (Macaranga tanarius M.A), lemboke (Ficus fistulaso), kentok celeng (Neonauclea calycina), kesambian (Adinandra javanica Choisy), cemara gunung/mountain pine (Casuarina junghuhniana), semak (Hypericum lecheanaltii), teh gunung/mountain tea (Rododendron), edelweiss (Anapalis sp) dll.

Fauna : Pitu/Lutung (Tracypetecus auratus), kera abu-abu/grey ape (Macaca fasicularis), perkici pelangi/ Rainbow Lorikeet (Trichoglossus haematodus), itik gunung/mountain duck (Annas super-celasa) and the endemic fauna of Mount Rinjani – Rinjani Weasel (Paradoxorus hemaproditus ridjanicus).
