Visit Responsibly

A few habits that keep the Geopark's sites intact and its communities welcoming.

Leave nothing behind

Take all rubbish with you, especially on the mountain and at the beaches. Refill a bottle instead of buying plastic.

Take only photographs

Do not remove rocks, pumice, coral, plants or animals. The geosites are evidence; once taken, they are gone.

Stay on the path

Erosion on the caldera rim and around waterfalls is made worse by short cuts.

Dress and act with respect

Cover shoulders and knees in villages, mosques and temples, and ask before photographing people or ceremonies.

Use local guides and homestays

Registered guides know the land and the risks, and your money stays in the Geopark.

Know the hazards

Rinjani and Barujari are active volcanoes and Lombok is earthquake country. Follow official warnings and closures.

Sacred places

Many geosites are also places of worship. Segara Anak lake, the temples of Lingsar, Suranadi and Batu Bolong, and the ancient mosques of Bayan are still in use. Visit quietly, follow the guidance of the custodians, and keep away from ceremonies unless invited.
