Lied in the direction of Rinjani Mountain, Suranadi Temple was built over the idea of Pagesangan king named AA Nyoman Karang in the year 1720 BC. Within the complex are three smaller temple complexes namely Ulon/Gaduh Temple, Pangentas Temple and Pabersihan Temple. Each name was derived from the distinct functions of springs located in the vicinity. Five ponds from natural springs, called panca tirta/pancaksara, are also located in the complex.
