Volcanic Beach - Kerandangan

Kerandangan Beach, Batu Layar District, West Lombok

There are several islands that show trails of volcanic activities in Lombok Island mainly on its western part. Batubolong Beach is located in the well-known Senggigi Beach with its sands graining from abraded volcanic rocks. There is a cape consisted of andesite-basalan lava with sheeting joint located on top of volcanic breccias. In this location lies Batubolong Temple as one of shrines for Hindu in Lombok Island.

Malimbu Beach is a bay-shaped beach with its northern border being Tanjung Serombong, which was formed by volcanic rocks of breccia and sheeting joints lava. Abrasion process causes a part of Tanjung Serombong to cut making a small hill in a form similar to a temple, which is separated from the main land. The process also successfully created a perforation in there locally named Batubolong (Batu: rock, bolong: perforated). Its sands are white, made from abraded limestone coral sediment. These whole morphological beauties can be seen from Tanjung Rumbeh/Malimbu or Tanjung Blambanan/Nipah.

Kerandangan Beach has geological phenomenon in the form of pillow lava contaminated by volcanic breccias. Pillow lava shows sheeting joints and vesicular.
